All gardeners are responsible for the regular maintenance and upkeep of their own garden plots. Weekly visits are recommended to weed, water, and harvest in a timely manner. If any plot remains unattended for more than three weeks, gardeners will be contacted regarding continued interest, and their plot may be reassigned. Gardeners agree to follow the recommendations for weed control, insect management, fertilizers and soil amendments listed on page 4. Gardeners are requested to monitor and control weeds and insect pests on their assigned plots because weeds and harmful pests do not respect boundaries and could spread into other plots. Gardeners are responsible, with adjacent gardeners, for keeping pathways bordering their beds weeded and unobstructed and preventing plants from overgrowing and blocking pathways. Gardeners should also try to avoid shading neighboring beds with tall plants by planting them in the center or south side of their plots. Unless permission is otherwise granted, gardeners may harvest vegetables and flowers from their own garden beds only. At the end of the growing season, or by December 1, gardeners are responsible for clearing their plots of all plant material and leaving their plots as they found them in the spring. Compost. Xxxxxx Backyard Farms will build a compost area close to the plot. The landowner agrees to provide Xxxxxx Backyard Farms with all of their acceptable surplus kitchen and yard waste. The resulting compost will be utilised to maintain a healthy and productive garden.
