(CMS): Apart from the obvious controlling functionality, the CMS in this scenario needs to operate as an intermediary between the Maintenance Tool and the IoT6 Gateway, accepting access requests from the former, and passing them on to the latter. Furthermore, it should accept notifications from the Maintenance Tool concerning the failure of a device as well as its replacement.
Control and Monitoring System a) SCADA System The Client’s requirements include provision of a comprehensive Supervisory, Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system with the following functions: • Real-time monitoring • Remote monitoring • Data capturing • Fault/incident logging • Data analysis The above implies that the current SCADA system should be upgraded to replace the existing hardware with modern type. The new electronic devices to be installed on the switchgear and control panels for different purposes shall also be linked to the new control and monitoring system. The hardware that will be in different locations shall be interlinked by fibre optic cabling. The fibre optic cables installation will require trenching on parts of the routes and new racks in other parts. Coaxial and network cables will be considered for the connection of equipment installed in the same space. These cables shall be supported on suitable racks, trunking and conduits.
