DATA STAGING SERVICE TECHNICAL DETAILS. I.1. Data staging script technical details As described into the introductory paragraph (paragraph 2.5.1), the Data Staging script (hereafter DSS) is a command line tool that, leveraging the Globus Online (GO) API, provides advanced functionalities for staging data in and out the EUDAT infrastructure. The DSS integrates GO and EUDAT services, such as the PID, together to offer users an easy-to-integrate and unified interface for shipping and ingesting large amount of data easily. Transfers are entirely handled and, in the case, recovered by GO ensuring an high level of performance and reliability. The DSS instruments the transfer request and, after that, GO manages the remaining operations: monitoring, retrying failed transfers, recovering from faults whenever possible, and reporting the final status of the transfer to the user. The two sequence diagrams below illustrate two implemented use cases and how involved components interact: a) the user ingests a new data set onto the EUDAT infrastructure and receives the associated PID (Stage IN), b) the user ships a data set, identified by its PID, from EUDAT to an external HPC machine (Stage OUT). Figure 28: Stage IN workflow Figure 29: Stage OUT workflow The following steps are executed during the stage IN, see (Figure 28).
