DATA STAGING SERVICE TECHNICAL DETAILS Sample Clauses

DATA STAGING SERVICE TECHNICAL DETAILS. I.1. Data staging script technical details 1. The user generates a GSI Proxy and stores it on a MyProxy Service (optional). 2. The DSS, on behalf of the user, contacts GO via API and proceeds with the authentication using the user proxy, which has been created locally. 3. GO contacts the two endpoints and activate them. 4. The DSS gives to GO the list of files than need to be transferred. 5. A third party transfer is executed between the two endpoints. 6. After the transfer is finished the user receives an email from GO with the report of the transfer. 7. The user could retrieve the PID that has been associated to the data for further processing. A sample usage command for staging data is reported below: ./datastager.py in taskid -u <username> --ss <HPC-machine> --sd <UnixPath> -p <fileName> --ds <EUDAT-NODE> --dd <iRODS-Path> The command to perform a stage out is very similar to that for the stage in with the only exception that the PID might be used to point to the data. In order to retrieve information about the PID (or other data stored on the epic server, xxxx://xxx.xxxxxxxxxxxxx.xx/) the DSS queries the EUDAT node where data have been transferred. On that node some specific iRODS rules should be available in order to query the EPIC service. The following steps usually take place to retrieve PID information: 1. the DSS authenticates to the iRODS server (here the use of GSI proxies is preferred but also username/password credentials are permitted) and invokes the PID resolution rule; 2. the iRODS server authenticates to the EPIC server using the same credentials it uses to register new PIDs (see Safe Replication, xxxx://xxx.xxxxx.xx/safe-replication); 3. the iRODS server returns the required information, such as the URL (e.g. iRODS physical path of the data) of the file corresponding to a given PID (see Figure 29). The DSS is entirely written in python (2.7 or greater is required) and uses a couple of packages to deal with X.509 certificates. These packages, available on almost all GNU/Linux platforms, are: grid-proxy- utils and python-m2crypto. Besides these packages, iRODS icommands are needed to invoke remote rules. The data staging script is currently used by VPH to ingest data into EUDAT and to move the data onto PRACE and EGI resources to be further processed. Apart from continuous improving and bug fixing, the following main enhancements are envisaged: 1. management of multiple certificates; 2. porting of the script to alternative platforms, suc...
