Elementary School Teachers. All elementary school teachers shall have a minimum of four hundred (400) minutes of plan time per full school week. Each elementary school teacher shall have two (2) plan periods per day totaling a minimum of seventy (70) minutes. One (1) of the daily plan periods will be a minimum of forty (40) consecutive minutes, and the other will be at least (30) thirty consecutive minutes. One (1) plan period will be for district-directed professional development/cooperative team planning and one (1) for individual planning. Part time elementary staff will have their plan time pro-rated. Elementary school teachers shall inform the school office prior to leaving the building during plan time. Prior to scheduling an elementary school teacher to attend a meeting during his/her assigned individual plan time, the following steps will be considered: 1) the Building Principal will work with the teachers and all other attendees to avoid the scheduling of a meeting during a teacher’s assigned individual plan time; 2) if there is no other time to complete the meeting, the Building Principal will work with the teacher and his/her schedule to find minutes to which could be used for the missed individual plan time, including rescheduling the plan time on a different day within a week’s time. The use of the district-directed professional development/cooperative team plan time shall only be used as a last resort and when no other meetings have been previously scheduled; 3) if the meeting and/or rescheduled plan time cannot be mutually agreed upon, the Building Principal shall notify the Superintendent and the Association President and together they will work to resolution; and 4) if no resolution can be mutually agreed upon, the teacher shall complete the requested activity/training/meeting, etc., and shall be paid a prorated amount of the hourly rate as set forth herein Subsection 3. Nothing prohibits the Administration from scheduling the meeting if it is at the request of a parent who did not provide other options and/or if the steps above have been met. No decision as a result of this Section 1 shall be subject to the grievance procedures set forth in Article IX.

Elementary School Teachers. All a. Elementary school teachers will have a preparation period each time their entire class is covered by a special teacher; and special teachers will continue to be scheduled so as to permit elementary teachers to receive five (5) preparation periods per week. Administration will make every attempt to insure that elementary school teachers receive at least one (1) preparation period per day.
b. No more than one preparation period per week may be provided for professional conference period and in each calendar month there shall have be one week in which no preparation period is directed by administration. This period may be used for team planning, curriculum development, pre and post observation conferences, and other educational activities at the direction of the principal. This provision shall not require any additional staffing but rather a minimum possible reallocation of four hundred time. The Administration and SOMEA will work cooperatively to develop the necessary schedules. If any additional preparation period(s) is/are lost for team planning, curriculum development, pre and post observation conferences, and other educational activities at the direction of the principal, staff will be compensated at the contractual rate.
c. Elementary teachers shall participate in six (4006) minutes parent-teacher conference days or nights—three (3) in the Fall and three (3) in the Spring. On these six (6) occasions, students shall be dismissed after the completion of plan time per full school weeka one session day. Each elementary school teacher shall have On two (2) plan periods per day totaling a minimum of seventy (70) minutesthese occasions in the Fall and the Spring the teacher shall be released at the end of the students' day, but shall return at 5:30 p.m. and remain until 8:00 p.m. for "Reporting to Parent" conferences. One On one (1) of these occasions in the daily plan periods Fall and the Spring the teacher shall remain and conduct "Reporting to Parents" conferences in the afternoon. Students will be dismissed at the end of a minimum of forty (40) consecutive minutes, and the other will be at least (30) thirty consecutive minutes. One (1) plan period will be for district-directed professional development/cooperative team planning and one (1) for individual planning. Part time elementary staff will have their plan time pro-rated. Elementary school session day, and the teachers shall inform remain until the end of the work day to prepare for activities related to Back to School Night. In the event of an emergency school closing on a scheduled parent-conference day, another single session (4 hour) day will be scheduled if conference days are rescheduled. If one or two of the three conference days have taken place and conference days are not rescheduled, arrangements will be made for teachers to be released during the school office prior day to leaving meet with parents/guardians.
