Entitlement and Calculation of Payment Full-Time. An employee who has completed less than one (1) year of continuous service as of the anniversary date of hire shall be entitled to 2 weeks' annual vacation. Payment for such vacation shall be pro-rated in accordance with his/her service. An employee who has completed one (1) year but less than two (2) years of continuous service as of the anniversary date of hire shall be entitled two (2) weeks’ annual vacation with pay. An employee who has completed two (2) years but less than five (5) years of continuous service as of the anniversary date of hire shall be entitled to three (3) weeks' annual vacation with pay. An employee who has completed five (5) years but less than twelve (12) of continuous service as of the anniversary date of hire shall be entitled to four (4) weeks' annual vacation with pay. An employee who has completed twelve (12) years but less than twenty (20) years of continuous service as of the anniversary date of hire shall be entitled to five (5) weeks' annual vacation with pay. An employee who has completed twenty (20) years but less than twenty-eight (28) years of continuous service as of the anniversary date of hire shall be entitled to six (6) weeks' vacation with pay. An employee who has completed twenty-eight (28) or more years of continuous service as of (the date for determining vacation entitlement in each Hospital) shall be entitled to seven (7) weeks’ annual vacation with pay. For clarification, an employee will not be eligible to receive the seventh (7th) week of vacation where they have already received the additional five (5) days of supplemental vacation in the same vacation year. Vacation pay shall be calculated on the basis of the employees’ regular straight time rate of pay times their normal hours of work, subject to the application of the Effect of Absence provision.

Requests for vacation shall be submitted in writing to the employee's management supervisor between January and March each year in order for the employee's seniority to prevail for requested vacation until March 31'' of the following year. If the hospital cannot approve all requests, the hospital shall grant approval on the basis of seniority. All vacation requests submitted in this period, once approved, shall be posted in the by April Thereafter, vacation requests shall be submitted at least six (6)weeks before the time at which the employee proposes to commence and are considered on a first come, first served basiswith no regard for seniority. A part-time employee who has completed 3,450 hours but less than 8,625 hours of continuous service as of (the date for determining vacation entitlement in each Hospital) shall receive 6% of gross earnings. A part-time employee who has completed 8,625 hours but less than 25,875 hours of continuous service as of (the date for determining vacation entitlement in each Hospital) shall receive 8% of gross earnings. A part-time employee who has completed 25,875 hours but less than 43,125 hours of continuous service as of (the date for determining vacation entitlement in each Hospital) shall receive 10% of gross earnings. A part-time employee who has completed 43,125 hours of continuous service or more as of (the date for determining vacation entitlement in each Hospital) shall receive 12% of gross earnings. Effective October 11, 2002, a part-time employee who has completed 39,675 hours of continuous service or more as of (the date for determining vacation entitlement in each Hospital) shall receive 12% of gross earnings. For the purpose of this Article, gross earnings include, in part, percentage in lieu of benefits and exclude vacation pay. Employees hired prior to October 10, 1986 will be credited with the service they held under the Agreement expiring November 15, 1985. Subject to maintaining superior conditions, insert in all Collective Agreements: Effective October 11, 2003, the following Supplementary Vacation will be added: A part-time employee who has completed 51,750 hours of continuous service as of (the date for determining vacation entitlement in each Hospital) shall receive an additional 2% of gross earnings in the year it is achieved. A part-time employee who has completed 60,375 hours of continuous service as of (the date for determining vacation entitlement in each Hospital) shall receive an additional 2% of gross earnings in the year it is achieved. Any other provisions related to Vacations are to be continued under the Local Provisions Appendix L21.

Approved Leave of Absence During Vacation (Full-time) Where an employee's scheduled vacation is due to serious illness, which either commenced prior to or during the scheduled vacation period, the period of such illness shall be considered sick leave. Serious illness is defined as an illness which requires the employee to receive on-going medical care treatments resulting in either hospitalization or which would confine the employee to their residence or to bed rest for more than three days. The portion of the employee's vacation which is deemed to be sick leave under the above provision will not be counted against the employee's vacation credits. Where an employee's scheduled vacation is interrupted due to bereavement, the employee shall be entitled to bereavement leave in accordance with Article The portion of the employee's vacation which is deemed to be bereavement leave under the above provisions will not be counted against the employee's vacation credits.
