Extended Tours. J-1 Extended Tour Implementation and Discontinuation (a) Extended tours shall be introduced into any unit when: i) Seventy percent (70%) of all full-time and regular part-time Employees on the unit, who vote so indicate by secret ballot, and ii) The Hospital agrees to implement the extended tours. Such Agreement shall not be withheld in an unreasonable or arbitrary manner. (b) Extended tours may be discontinued in any unit when: i) seventy percent (70%) of all full-time and regular part-time Employees, on the unit Employees who vote so indicate by secret ballot, or ii) the Hospital because of: A) adverse effects on patient care, B) inability to provide a workable staffing schedule, or C) where the Hospital wishes to do so for other reasons which are neither unreasonable nor arbitrary states its intention to discontinue the extended tours in the schedule. (c) When notice of discontinuation is given by either party in accordance with paragraph (b) above, then: i) the Parties shall meet within two (2) weeks of the giving of notice to review the request for discontinuation; and ii) where it is determined that the extended tours will be discontinued, affected Employees shall be given sixty (60) days' notice before the schedules are so amended. (d) In this Article J-1, the process by which any secret ballot shall be conducted will be as mutually agreed between the Hospital and the Association. (e) All full-time and part-time Employees shall be required to work extended tours in those areas where the compressed work week is scheduled. (f) There will be a minimum of twelve (12) months between extended tour votes identified in Article J-1 (a) or (b) above. Such twelve (12) month period will commence from the date of implementation of the extended tour schedule. 0700 – 1900 1900 – 0700 unless the Hospital and the Union agree to alter extended tours to meet the needs of a specific unit. Variations to the above tours or the tours identified in Appendix “A” will be agreed with the Association prior to implementation. The Association shall not unreasonably withhold such agreement.

(c) When notice of discontinuation is given by either party in accordance with paragraph (b2) above, then:,
i) the Parties The parties shall meet within two (2) weeks of the giving of notice to review the request for discontinuation; discontinuance in an attempt to resolve identified problems, and
ii) where Where it is determined that the extended tours will are to be discontinued, affected Employees Nurses shall be given sixty (60) days' notice before the schedules are so amended.

(a) Extended tours shall be introduced into any unit unit, on a trial basis for a period of not less than six (6) months (or such longer period of time as the Employer and the Union may mutually agree upon) when:
i) Seventy seventy percent (70%) of all the Employees (including both full-time and regular part-time Employees on time) assigned to the unit, who vote Home so indicate by secret ballot, and
(b) Extended tours shall be continued in any Home beyond the trial period referred to in Article 15.07 (a) when:
i) seventy percent (70%) of the Employees (including both full-time and part-time) assigned to the Home so indicate by secret ballot, such ballot to be held in the third last week of the trial period referred to in Article 15.02 (a), and
ii) The Hospital the Employer agrees to implement continue the extended tourscompressed work week. Such Agreement agreement shall not be withheld in an unreasonable or arbitrary manner.
(bc) Extended tours A compressed work week may be discontinued in any unit Home when:
i) seventy percent per cent (70%) of all full-time and regular part-time Employees, on the unit Employees who vote employees in the Home so indicate by secret ballot, ; or
ii) the Hospital Management because of:
A) adverse effects on patient care,
B) inability to provide a workable staffing schedule, or,
C) where the Hospital wishes to do so for other reasons which are neither unreasonable nor arbitrary cost of staffing utilizing extended tours being appreciably greater than staffing utilizing a 7.5 hour tour rotation. states its intention to discontinue the extended tours compressed work week in the schedule.
(cd) When notice of discontinuation is given by either party the Union or the Management in accordance with paragraph (b2) above, then:
i) the Parties Union representatives and the Management shall meet within two (2) weeks of the giving of notice to review the request for discontinuation; and
ii) where it is determined that the extended tours compressed work week will be discontinued, affected Employees employees shall be given sixty (60) days' days notice before the schedules are so amended.
(de) In this Article J-1, the process by which any secret ballot Hours of work for those working extended tours shall be conducted scheduled in accordance with the following:
i) The hours of work are 11.25 hours paid including 45 minutes paid break and 45 minutes (.75 hr.) unpaid break are set out in the twelve hour period.
ii) No more than three (3) consecutive tours will be scheduled. If more than three consecutive tours are scheduled or worked the employee shall be paid premium pay for all days in excess of three consecutive days until such time as mutually agreed between the Hospital and the Associationtwo consecutive days off are granted.
iii) No more than seven (e7) All fulltours will be scheduled in any two (2) week pay period. If more than seven (7) tours are scheduled premium pay will be paid for all tours in excess of seven (7) tours (75 hours).
iv) Every second weekend off. An employee will receive premium pay for all hours worked on a second consecutive and subsequent weekend.
v) It is understood that a weekend consists of fifty-time and partsix (56) consecutive hours off work during the period following the completion of the Friday day shift until the commencement of the Monday day shift.
vi) a minimum of forty-time Employees shall eight hours (48) hours will be scheduled off when changing from the night tours to the day tours.
vii) Where a nurse is required to work extended tours in those areas where on a paid holiday or on an overtime tour or on a tour that is paid at the compressed rate of time and one- half (1 ½) her regular straight time hourly rate and she is required to work week is scheduledadditional hours following her full tour on that day (but not including hours on a subsequent regularly scheduled tour for such nurse) she shall receive two (2) times her regular straight time hourly rate for such hours worked.

i) the Parties parties shall meet within two (2) weeks of the giving of notice to review the request for discontinuation; and
ii) where it is determined that the extended tours compressed work week will be discontinued, affected Employees nurses shall be given sixty (60) days' days notice before the schedules are so amended.
(d) In this Article J-1, the process by which any secret ballot Nurses who work extended tours shall be conducted will be as scheduled off at least every second weekend, unless mutually agreed between the Hospital and the Associationotherwise.
(e) All full-time and part-time Employees No more than three (3) consecutive extended tours shall be required scheduled, unless by mutual agreement. If a nurse is scheduled to work extended tours in those areas where the compressed work week on a fourth (4th) consecutive and subsequent tour, she/he will receive premium pay for each tour so worked until a day off is scheduled.
(f) There will be a minimum of twelve Part-time nurses who work both seven and one-half (127 ½) months between hour and extended tour votes identified in Article J-1 (a) or (b) above. Such twelve (12) month period will commence from the date of implementation of the extended tour schedule. 0700 – 1900 1900 – 0700 unless the Hospital and the Union agree to alter extended tours to meet the needs of a specific unit. Variations to the above tours or the tours identified in Appendix “A” will be agreed with the Association prior to implementation. The Association tours, shall not unreasonably withhold such agreementbe scheduled to work in combination more than four (4) consecutive tours. If a nurse is scheduled to work on a fifth (5th) consecutive and subsequent tour, she/he will receive premium pay for each tour so worked until a day off is scheduled.

ii) the Hospital agrees to continue the compressed work week. Such agreement shall not be withheld in an unreasonable or arbitrary manner.
(c) Extended tours may be discontinued in any unit when:
i) seventy percent (70%) of all fullthe Full-time/Regular Part-time and regular part-time Employees, on Employees in the unit Employees who vote cast votes, excluding Employee’s in temporary positions, so indicate by a union supervised secret ballot, or
ii) the Hospital serves notice of its desire to discontinue extended tours because of:
A) adverse effects on patient care,;
B) inability to provide a workable staffing schedule, ; or
C) where the Hospital wishes to do so for other reasons which are neither unreasonable nor arbitrary states its intention to discontinue the extended tours in the schedulearbitrary.
(cd) When notice of discontinuation is given by either party in accordance with paragraph (b) above, above gives notice of discontinuation then:
i) the Parties parties shall meet within two (2) weeks of the giving of notice to review the request for discontinuationdiscontinuance in an attempt to resolve identified problems; and
ii) Where the parties are unable to resolve identified problems and where it is determined that the extended tours will are to be discontinued, affected Employees shall the extended tours will be given discontinued sixty (60) days after the date of the meeting in i) above.
(a) The normal extended tours shall be defined as: 0700 – 1900 days 1900 – 0700 nights The Hospital will provide the Union with thirty (30) days' ’ notice before of a change in the schedules are so amendedextended tour hours.
(b) The normal schedule for extended tour employees shall be 1950 hours in a one year period. The hours of work for extended tour Employees shall be averaged over a specific period to meet the needs of the scheduling requirements of each unit. Such averaging shall be agreed upon between the Hospital and the Union and is subject to approval by the Director of Employment Standards as required.
(c) There will be no split shifts.
(d) In this Article J-1Unless otherwise requested by a Nurse in writing, the process by which any secret ballot there shall be conducted will be as mutually agreed at least twelve (12) consecutive hours off between the Hospital scheduled tours of duty for Nurses working only twelve (12) hour tours or a combination of eight (8) hour and the Associationtwelve (12) hour tours.
(e) All full-time and part-time Employees shall A Nurse will receive premium pay for all hours worked at the Hospital’s request where she has received less than the minimum number of hours off since her last tour or more than the maximum number of consecutive shifts as set out above. F-3 (a) Employee will not be required to work extended tours in those areas where the compressed work week is scheduledmore than three (3) consecutive Extended Tours without a day off.

The implementation and the discontinuance of the extended tours will require an eighty (80) percent of the nurses that vote. Extended Tours. J-1 Extended Tour Implementation Shift schedules shall be posted on January May 30th and Discontinuation

Extended Tours. J-1 Extended Tour Implementation The Employer will maintain and Discontinuationachieve the following objectives in the information of extended working schedules:
(a) Extended tours L.1 An extended tour shall be introduced into any unit when:
i(a) Seventy percent seventy (70%) percent of all full-time and regular part-time Employees on those nurses in the unit, unit who vote so indicate by secret ballot, ; and
ii(b) The Hospital the Employer agrees to implement the extended tours. Such Agreement tour; such agreement shall not be withheld in an unreasonable or arbitrary manner.
(a) Subsequent to the initial vote, a trial period of at least 6 months will take place.
(b) Extended tours Subsequent to the trial period, a second vote will be taken, if deemed necessary by either party.
(c) All nurses on the unit must then work the extended tour schedule during the trial period and thereafter.
L.3 An extended tour may be discontinued in any unit when:
i(a) seventy sixty percent (7060%) of all full-time and regular part-time Employees, on those nurses in the unit Employees who vote so indicate by secret ballot, ; or
ii(b) the Hospital Employer because of:
Ai) adverse effects on patient care,
Bii) inability to provide a workable staffing staff schedule, or
C) where the Hospital wishes to do so for other reasons which are neither unreasonable nor arbitrary states its intention to discontinue the extended tours tour in the schedule.
(c) where the Employer wishes to do so or other reasons which are neither unreasonable or arbitrary,
L.4 When notice of discontinuation is given by either party in accordance with paragraph (b) Article L.3 above, then:
i(a) the Parties parties shall meet within two (2) weeks of the giving of notice to review the request for discontinuation; and
ii(b) where it is determined that the extended tours will be discontinued, affected Employees nurses shall be given sixty (60) days' notice before the schedules are so amended.
(da) In this Article J-1, the process by which any secret ballot shall be conducted Nurses will be as mutually agreed between the Hospital and the Associationasked to work no more than four (4) consecutive days except by mutual consent, followed by at least two (2) consecutive days off.
(eb) All full-time and part-time Employees shall be required to work extended tours in those areas where the compressed work week is scheduledThe Employer will schedule alternate weekends off duty.
(fc) There Nurses will not be a minimum of twelve (12) months between extended tour votes identified in Article J-1 (a) scheduled single days off or (b) above. Such twelve (12) month period will commence from the date of implementation of the extended tour schedule. 0700 – 1900 1900 – 0700 on duty unless the Hospital and the Union agree to alter extended tours to meet the needs of a specific unit. Variations to the above tours or the tours identified in Appendix “A” will be agreed with the Association prior to implementation. The Association shall not unreasonably withhold such agreementby mutual consent.

(a) Extended tours shall be introduced into any unit unit, on a trial basis for a period of not less than six (6) months (or such longer period of time as the Hospital and the Union may mutually agree upon) when:
i) Seventy percent (70%) of all fullthe Full-time and regular parttime/Regular Part-time Employees on in the unitunit who cast votes, who vote excluding Employee’s in temporary positions, so indicate by union supervised secret ballot, and
ii) The Hospital agrees to implement the extended tours. Such Agreement , such agreement shall not be withheld in an unreasonable or arbitrary manner.
(b) Extended tours shall be continued in any unit beyond the trial period referred to in Article F-1 (a) when:
i) Seventy percent (70%) of the Full-time/Regular Part-time Employees in the unit who cast votes, excluding Employee’s in temporary positions so indicate by secret ballot, such ballot to be held in the third last week of the trial period referred to in Article G-1 (a), and
ii) The Hospital agrees to continue the compressed work week. Such agreement shall not be withheld in an unreasonable or arbitrary manner.
(c) Extended tours may be discontinued in any unit when:
i) seventy Seventy percent (70%) of all fullthe Full-time/Regular Part-time and regular part-time Employees, on Employees in the unit Employees who vote cast votes, excluding Employee’s in temporary positions, so indicate by a union supervised secret ballot, or
ii) the The Hospital serves notice of its desire to discontinue extended tours because of:
A) adverse effects on patient care,;
B) inability to provide a workable staffing schedule, ; or
C) where the Hospital wishes to do so for other reasons which are neither unreasonable nor arbitrary states its intention to discontinue the extended tours in the schedulearbitrary.
(cd) When notice of discontinuation is given by either party in accordance with paragraph (b) above, above gives notice of discontinuation then:
i) the Parties The parties shall meet within two (2) weeks of the giving of notice to review the request for discontinuationdiscontinuance in an attempt to resolve identified problems; and
ii) Where the parties are unable to resolve identified problems and where it is determined that the extended tours will are to be discontinued, affected Employees shall the extended tours will be given discontinued sixty (60) days after the date of the meeting in i) above.
(e) The scheduling provisions contained in Article H are applicable except as amended below:
(a) The normal extended tours shall be defined as: 0700 – 1900 days 1900 – 0700 nights The Hospital will provide the Union with thirty (30) days' ’ notice before of a change in the schedules are so amendedextended tour hours.
(b) The normal schedule for extended tour employees shall be 1950 hours in a one year period. The hours of work for extended tour Employees shall be averaged over a specific period to meet the needs of the scheduling requirements of each unit. Such averaging shall be agreed upon between the Hospital and the Union and is subject to approval by the Director of Employment Standards as required.
(c) There will be no split shifts.
(d) In this Article J-1Unless otherwise requested by an Employee in writing through a mutual exchange of tours/Special Requests, there shall be at least twelve (12) consecutive hours off between scheduled tours of duty for Employees working only twelve (12) hour tours or a combination of eight (8) hour and twelve (12) hour tours.
(a) Employees working extended tours will not be required to work more than three (3) consecutive Extended tours without a day off. Premium pay will be paid for any tour worked on the 4th and subsequent consecutive shift.
i) The Employer will not schedule any full-time employee any other tours (7.5, short tours) in conjunction with F-3 (a).
(b) Employees working Extended Tours will be scheduled off a minimum of seventy-two hours (72) when changing from the night tours to the day tours.
F-4 An Employee will receive premium pay for all hours worked at the Hospital’s request where she has received less than the minimum number of hours off since her last tour or more than the maximum number of consecutive shifts as set out above.
F-5 Employees will be scheduled every other weekend-off. A full-time or regular part-time Employee receives premium pay for all hours worked on a second (2nd) consecutive and subsequent weekend, save and except where:
(a) Such weekend has been worked by the Employee to satisfy specific days off requested by such Employee;
(b) Such Employee has requested to be scheduled additional weekend work;
(c) Such weekend is worked as a result of an exchange of shifts with another Employee. Employees called in for weekend work will not have their posted schedule altered or cancelled as result of the call in. The Hospital shall not cancel the prescheduled weekend shifts which become a premium pay weekend as a result of being called in for work on the previous weekends off.
F-6 Where an Employee is scheduled to be off duty for a weekend she will be scheduled off duty for a period of not less than sixty (60) hours between the end of her scheduled Friday shift and the commencement of her next scheduled shift unless the Employee agrees otherwise. Where an Employee is scheduled to work, called into work or assigned to standby during any of these sixty (60) hours stated above, the process by which any secret ballot Employee shall be conducted considered to have worked the weekend.
F-7 The Hospital will endeavour to replace cancelled tours with the next available tour within the same pay period provided such tour does not attract a premium.
F-8 When a nursing unit wants to pursue the introduction of extended tours the Bargaining Unit Representative will make written application to Program Director/Manager. A meeting with the Bargaining Unit President will be as mutually agreed between arranged to discuss the matter and to determine if and when a vote will be held. The Program Director/Manager will respond to the request in writing to the Bargaining Unit President within two weeks of the meeting. Where a vote is to be taken pursuant to Article F-1 (a) of the Collective Agreement, the following procedure will be followed:
(a) A locked ballot box will be placed in the Nursing Unit.
(b) A voter’s list of all full-time and regular part-time Employees assigned to the floor/unit, excluding Employee’s working in temporary full-time or temporary regular part-time positions, will be posted by the ballot box.
(c) Only Employees assigned to the floor/unit may vote. If an Employee is currently on a leave of absence she/he may come into the Hospital and to vote but cannot vote by proxy. Any relief Employees filling in for leaves of absence or illness are not eligible to vote.
(d) To vote, the AssociationEmployee must sign her/his name beside her/his name on the voter’s list, make an “X” beside her/his choice on the ballot, then deposit the ballot into the locked ballot box.
(e) All full-time The vote will take place over a one (1) week period and part-time Employees shall be required to work extended tours the ballot box will remain in those areas where the compressed work week is scheduledNursing Unit during that period.
(f) There The box will be opened and the votes counted in the presence of an ONA Executive Representative and a minimum of twelve (12) months between extended tour votes identified Human Resource Administrator. F-9 Breaks will be as provided in Article J-1 (a) or (b) above. Such twelve (12) month period will commence from the date of implementation 13.02 of the extended tour schedule. 0700 – 1900 1900 – 0700 unless the Hospital and the Union agree to alter extended tours to meet the needs of a specific unit. Variations to the above tours or the tours identified in Appendix “A” will be agreed with the Association prior to implementation. (c) When written notice of discontinuation is given by either party in accordance with paragraph (b) above, then:
i) the Parties parties shall meet within two (2) weeks of the giving of notice to review the request for discontinuation; and
ii) where it is determined that the extended tours will be discontinued, affected Employees employees shall be given sixty (60) days' notice before the schedules are so amended.
(d) In this Article J-1, There will be an ongoing evaluation of the process by which any secret ballot extended tour in each unit. It is understood that the implementation of extended tours will be on a trial period for six (6) months. At the completion of the trial period a second vote will be taken in accordance with paragraph (a) above. The following scheduling provisions shall apply to all employees working extended tours:
i) No more than three (3) consecutive extended tours shall be conducted scheduled.
ii) At least one (1) extended tour off will be scheduled between shifts.
iii) A weekend is defined as mutually agreed between the a minimum of sixty (60) consecutive hours off which shall commence no later than 1930 hours Friday.
iv) The Hospital and the Associationwill not schedule split tours.
v) Full-time employees will not be scheduled to change tours of duty more than once during a week. Part-time employees will not be scheduled to change tours of duty more than once during a week, unless otherwise agreed.
vi) The Hospital will provide at least every second weekend off.
(e) All full-time If the employee works on a second consecutive and part-time Employees shall be required subsequent weekend, they will receive premium payment as defined in the Central Agreement for all hours worked on that weekend, and any subsequent weekend until a weekend is scheduled off, save and except where:
i) Such weekend has been worked by the employee to work extended tours in those areas where satisfy specific days off requested by such employee; or
ii) Such employee has requested weekend work; or
iii) Such weekend is worked as the compressed work week is scheduledresult of an exchange with another employee.
(f) There will be a minimum of twelve (12) months between extended tour votes identified in Article J-1 (a) or (b) above. Such twelve (12) month period will commence from the date of implementation of the extended tour schedule. 0700 – 1900 1900 – 0700 unless the Hospital and the Union agree to alter extended tours to meet the needs of a specific unit.
