Extending parental leave. 48.20.1 Extending the initial period of parental leave (a) An Employee, who is on an initial period of parental leave of less than 52 weeks under clause 48.4 or 48.5, may extend the period of their parental leave on one occasion up to the full 52 week entitlement. (b) The Employee must notify the Employer in writing at least four weeks prior to the end date of their initial parental leave period. The notice must specify the new end date of the parental leave. 48.20.2 Right to request an extension to parental leave (a) An Employee who is on parental leave under clause 48.4 or 48.5 may request an extension of unpaid parental leave for a further period of up to 12 months immediately following the end of the current parental leave period. (e) The Employer must not refuse the request unless the Employer has given the Employee a reasonable opportunity to discuss the request. (f) The Employer must give a written response to the request as soon as practicable, and no later than 21 days after the request is made.
