Facilitation of Short-Term Training for Wheat Research Intermediate Data Analysis and Statistics Training Sample Clauses

Facilitation of Short-Term Training for Wheat Research Intermediate Data Analysis and Statistics Training. ‌ GRAIN and CIMMYT facilitated a joint meeting with the ARIA leadership to collaboratively plan for the launch of the second cohort of the Intermediate Data Analysis and Statistics program. The purpose of this training is to build on ARIA researchers’ knowledge of basic experimental design to allow for accurate analysis and interpretation of collected data from agronomic research trials. A proficient understanding of research design and analysis is critical in order for researchers to make sound research-based recommendations that address critical problems associated with the quality and productivity of wheat production systems. In PY2, 18 researchers completed the training program. This quarter, GRAIN and CIMMYT leadership closely reviewed post-program knowledge evaluations to ensure all learning objectives were met for the majority of cohort one attendees and to identify any curriculum areas that require refinement prior to launching cohort two. The results show that 59% of attendees demonstrated an increase in knowledge of 40% or higher, with an average post- program exam score of 64% (a 46 point increase over the average pre-program exam score of 18%). Working collaboratively with ARIA leadership and the CIMMYT training team, GRAIN identified 16 researchers for the training program who have never attended previous statistics training organized by GRAIN. The statistics training program will be conducted for two cohorts of participants with two sessions per cohort. The trainees will have an opportunity to attend a three to five month program covering all basic aspects of statistics and data analysis that apply to agronomic research projects. The first training is delayed until Q4 due to COVID-19. English language proficiency is very important for ARIA researchers’ engagement with a wider international scientific community. As such, GRAIN plans to support intermediate English language training for ARIA researchers and Interns in Balkh, Herat, Nangarhar, and Kabul provinces this year. After issuing a Request for Quotes (RFQ) in early Q2, a preferred training provider was selected by the procurement committee in early March. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 lockdown in Kabul and Afghanistan more broadly has slowed contract finalization. GRAIN plans to complete this in early April, select participants with ARIA leadership by the end of April, and begin the program as soon as gatherings and trainings can safely resume, tentatively planned for early June. 1.
