FOR SAFETY EMPLOYEES. At the election of the employee, when their sick leave balance reaches the maximum usable accumulation of 2,912 hours for employees who work 24-hour shifts and 2,080 hours for employees who work eight (8)-hour shifts, five (5) shifts or days shall be deducted from said sick leave balance and shall be converted to one (1) shift or day of vacation. Employees may exercise their election annually in December which shall remain in effect for the following year. Notification shall be made in writing or by electronic mail.
