Formal Grievance - Step 1. a. If an informal grievance is not resolved to the satisfaction of the grievant, or if there is reason to bypass the informal step, a formal grievance may be initiated. A formal grievance may be initiated no later than: (1) Ten (10) workdays after the event or circumstances occasioning the grievance; or (2) Within five (5) workdays of the decision rendered in the informal grievance procedure, whichever is later. b. However if the formal grievance procedure is not initiated within the period specified in Subsection a.(1) above, the period in which to bring the grievance shall not be extended by Subsection a.(2) above. c. A formal grievance shall be initiated in writing on a form prescribed by the County and shall be filed with the persons designated by the appointing authority as the first level of appeal. The grievant may be represented by the Association representative. d. Within five (5) workdays after the initiation of the formal grievance, the designee of the appointing authority at the first level of appeal shall investigate the grievance, and give his/her decision in writing to the grievant.
