Language allowance. 30.4.1 Where the Employee, in addition to his or her normal duties, agrees to be appointed by the Employer to use their skills in a second language to assist members of the public who have low English proficiency: (a) the Employee must hold a current accreditation from the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI); and (b) the Employee will be paid an annual allowance payable in fortnightly instalments as follows: Level Date of Effect 31 March 2017 31 March 2018 31 March 2019 31 March 2020 Language aide accreditation $998 $1,031 $1,064 $1,099 Paraprofessional interpreter accreditation $1,374 $1,419 $1,465 $1,513 Interpreter accreditation or higher $1,874 $1,935 $1,998 $2,063 30.4.2 The Employer will pay the cost of the NAATI pre-testing workshop. 30.4.3 The Employer will also meet the cost of the NAATI test, up to two times per individual per level of accreditation. 30.4.4 The Employee must apply annually for renewal of the allowance. The Employer will assess the Employee's application to determine whether the Employer still requires the Employee to perform interpreting duties.
