Common use of Leave for Personal Use Clause in Contracts

Leave for Personal Use. Leave for personal use is a provision which is designed to enable day staff firefighters to be absent from employment with full pay for the following reasons: professional appointments such as medical, dental, legal and optical. Firefighters will make every effort to schedule such appointments outside of scheduled hours of work. Leave for personal use is to be utilized solely for the purposes as specified above and a reason acceptable to management is to be provided. To qualify for this provision, the firefighter must have notified the department at least forty-eight (48) hours in advance of the date and required time off. Leave for personal use is limited to a maximum of twenty (20) hours per calendar year, non-cumulative. Firefighters who have taken leave for personal use may be required to produce evidence which is satisfactory to management. (1999) ARTICLE 18.00 - COURT APPEARANCES
