Leave for School and Child Care Activities. a. Pursuant to California Labor Code section 230.8, if an employee is a parent, guardian, step-parent, xxxxxx parent, or grandparent of, or a person who stands in loco parentis to, a child enrolled in a California public or private school, kindergarten through grade twelve (12), or in a licensed child day care facility, the employee may take up to forty (40) hours each calendar year (at a maximum of 8 hours a month) to attend school conferences and events. Any activity that is sponsored, supervised, or approved by the school, school board, or child care facility is acceptable. Examples include participating in parent-teacher conferences, Open House, or a child’s school-related disciplinary issue.
