Failure by the Board to render such letter does not remove the Occasional Teacher’s rights under 1.04 (Appendix “A”). 15.03 Each Long-term Occasional Teacher shall be assigned only the regularly scheduled supervision duties, personal professional development days and work load of the Teacher being substituted. 15.04 In determining whether to grant a Long-term Occasional Contract of Employment, the Board shall not regard Professional Development or Activity days which are not worked, Board recognized holidays including statutory holidays, Ministry recognized grant days (snow days), early school closing days, or leave for Association business as breaking the consecutiveness of days involved. 15.05 In the event that the Long-term Occasional Teacher’s Contract of Employment is to be terminated prior to the original termination date, the Long-term Occasional Teacher shall be given five (5) teaching days notice or five (5) days pay in lieu of notice.

It is understood that this evaluation will be informal in nature and may be written in the form of a letter.

LONG TERM OCCASIONAL ASSIGNMENTS. 15.01 When 12:04 The filling of LTO assignments shall be determined in the following order: a) First consideration shall be given to supernumerary or to permanent teachers who have been declared surplus or redundant. Any assignments taken by such teachers will be repaid, if possible, to the Occasional Teacher Bargaining Unit within the same school year period. b) Then to qualified Occasional Teachers on the priority list (Occasional Teachers who have successfully completed a teacher under probationary or permanent contract with previous LTO assignment which includes an evaluation) and who have applied for the assignment. c) Then to qualified Occasional teachers who have applied for the assignment 12:05 If the Board is pre- scheduled does not find a suitable and qualified candidate, then the Board may fill the position at its discretion. 12:06 A refusal of any Long Term Occasional assignment by an Occasional Teacher shall not prejudice their right to further Long Term Occasional positions as they become available in the school year. 12:07 Priority List a) The Priority List shall include: i) Occasional teachers who are on the list as at June 30, 2009 ii) Occasional teachers who have successfully completed a long term assignment of at least 75 days and who have received a successful evaluation. b) These Occasional Teachers will only be absent removed from teaching duty the Priority List if they have received two unsatisfactory performance assessments within a three year period. 12:08 Each teacher hired to a long term assignment shall receive from the Board a letter of assignment specifying the nature of the assignment, its expected duration, and salary. LONG TERM OCCASIONAL ASSIGNMENTS. 15.01 When a teacher under probationary All Long-Term contracts shall be assigned to Occasional Teachers who meet the following criteria: i) The name of the Occasional Teacher appears on the Board’s list of occasional teachers for the current school year. ii) The Occasional Teacher has indicated an interest in long-term assignments on their renewal form or permanent contract application form in accordance with Article 13.01. iii) Holds the qualifications required by the Board for the available position, which requirements shall be reasonable for the position to be filled, and at least the minimum qualifications required by the Education Act and Regulations. iv) Have completed ten (10) teaching days or have been on the Occasional Teacher list forty (40) days, whichever first occurs, provided that if there are not sufficient applicants with these criteria to meet the Board’s needs, or with the qualifications necessary for the positions available, the Board may assign long-term contracts to teachers who do not meet these criteria. 15.02 A refusal of any long-term assignment by an Occasional Teacher shall not prejudice their right to future long-term positions as they become available in the current school year. (a) No Occasional Teacher shall be given more than one predetermined long-term assignment in any one school year except as provided below. (b) Notwithstanding the above, where any predetermined long-term position is pre- scheduled to be absent from teaching duty accepted by an Occasional Teacher and the Board decides to replace assignment does not continue beyond forty (40) teaching days, the contract teacher with Occasional Teacher shall be deemed eligible for a Longsecond predetermined long-term Occasional Teacherassignment. (c) Notwithstanding Article 15.03 (a), and where the Board has two (2) weeks notice prior followed the procedures as outlined in Article 16.00 and is unable to fill a long-term assignment with an Occasional Teacher meeting the beginning of minimum qualifications posted for the assignmentposition, the Board shall post the position on may offer an eligible Occasional Teacher a bulletin board in each school. Should a Long-term Occasional Teacher commence an assignment in September, and should that assignment be extended until the end of the school year, the Long-term Occasional Teacher shall become eligible for enrolment in the Boards’ benefit plan, effective as at the first date of the renewal of the term. 15.07 As per Part A – Central Terms, Article 7: Benefits, and Letter of Agreement #5: Benefits, prior to the Participation Date in the OECTA ELHT (Employee Life, Health & Trust): Long-term Occasional Teachers with an assignment of more than three (3) months’ duration, and ineligible for benefits as per Article 15.06, shall receive four dollars ($4.00) per day, in lieu of benefits. 15.08 An Occasional Teacher in a Long-term Occasional assignment shall only be considered for a concurrent Long-term Occasional assignment prior to the end of their original term if: - the FTE of the concurrent assignment constitutes an increase of at least 0.25; or, - the duration of the concurrent assignment is at least 4 months longer. 15.09 When an Occasional Teacher completes a Long term Occasional Assignment, the Occasional Teacher shall indicate their intention to resume availability for casual assignments from the Occasional Teachers’ List. This shall be done by submitting to the Human Resources Department, the Occasional Teacher Renewal Application Form (Appendix C). If an Occasional Teacher has already submitted this form for the current school year, a phone call or email to the Human Resources Department indicating one’s intent to continue on the list will suffice. 15.10 A full year Long-term Occasional teacher may request a written evaluation from the school principal. It is understood that this evaluation will be informal in nature and may be written in the form of a letter.
