Common use of Manhole Clause in Contracts

Manhole. The term “manhole” refers to an enclosure, usually below ground level and entered through a hole on the surface covered with a cast iron, cast aluminum, steel, or concrete manhole cover, which personnel may enter and use for the purpose of installing, operating, and maintaining facilities in a conduit. The term “handhole” refers to a structure similar in function to a manhole, but which is usually too small for personnel to enter. As used in this Appendix, the term “manhole” refers only to manhole structures owned or controlled by SBC MISSOURI and does not include cables and other telecommunications equipment located within manhole structures.
