Childrearing Leave 1. Any teacher who has acquired tenure and is expecting a child, or whose spouse is expecting a child, or who has documented plans in the immediate future to adopt or xxxxxx a child of preschool age or a preteen child with special needs or who is non-English speaking, may be granted a long-term leave without pay for child-rearing purposes up to two (2) full semesters or a reasonably requested portion thereof within the same school year.
Marriage Leave A confirmed staff shall be granted 3 working days of paid marriage leave on the occasion of her first legal marriage. The leave has to be consumed within 1 year of her legal marriage.
Donor Leave An employee shall be granted the necessary leave of absence with pay for the purpose of donating bone marrow or an organ.
Volunteer Leave Subject to operational requirements as determined by the Employer and with an advance notice of at least five (5) working days, the employee shall be granted, in each fiscal year, one (1) day of leave with pay to work as a volunteer for a charitable or community organization or activity, other than for activities related to the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign. The leave will be scheduled at times convenient both to the employee and the Employer. Under no circumstances shall there be carry-over of such leave to another fiscal year.
Blood Donor Leave Employees may be granted reasonable paid time off for the purpose of donating blood when participating in a City-authorized and/or sponsored blood donation drive or special need. No employee shall be eligible for overtime as a result of donating blood. All such absences shall be scheduled with the employee’s supervisor.
Funeral and Bereavement Leave 19.01 In the event of death in the immediate family of an employee, the employee will be granted leave of absence with pay, with consideration given to travel time for attending the funeral. The length of absence shall be up to three (3) days at the discretion of the Employer. The term ‘immediate family’ shall mean: spouse, parent, child, brother, sister, step-mother, step-father, step-son, step-daughter, step-brother, step-sister, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandmother, grandfather, and grandchildren, or any relative living in the household of the employee. In the event of the demise of an aunt or uncle, nephew or niece, an employee will be granted one (1) day leave of absence with pay to attend the funeral. In the case of death of spouse, father, mother, child, step-parent or step-child, the employee shall be entitled to, up to one (1) weeks leave of absence with pay.
