Common use of Meal/Relief Periods Clause in Contracts

Meal/Relief Periods. ‌ Each employee shall receive a lunch period of thirty (30) minutes, on the employee’s own time, approximately one-half (1/2) way through the workday, in accordance with a lunch period schedule to be established by the Employer. By mutual agreement of the employee and supervisor, lunch periods of sixty (60) minutes may be established. When a sixty (60) minute lunch is utilized, it is duty-free time on the employee’s own time. Any schedule implemented via this Section may be discontinued by the Employer upon thirty (30) days written notification to the affected employee(s) and the Union unless the employees agree to an earlier change. Employees working overtime shall receive an unpaid meal period of thirty (30) minutes after every five (5) hours provided the overtime hours are annexed directly to the employee’s regular work schedule. If the Employer requires the employee to work during the overtime meal period, the employee shall receive the overtime rate of pay for such meal period.
