Meaning of Words and Phrases. Unless the context or the Contract Documents taken as a whole indicate to the contrary, words used in the Contract Documents that have usual and common meanings shall be given their usual and common meanings; words having technical or trade meanings shall be given their customary meaning in the subject business, trade, or profession. Materials or work described in words that, so applied, have a well-known technical or trade meaning shall be held to refer to such recognized meaning.

Materials or work described in words that so applied have a well-known technical or trade meaning shall be held to refer to such recognized meanings. In the event the Architect shall have used such phrases anywhere in the Contract Documents as: "Work indicated on the drawings and herein specified", "work shown and specified", "in accordance with drawings and specifications", "indicated on the drawings and specifications", "in accordance with specifications and applicable drawings", "these specifications and the accompanying drawings", "as indicated on the drawings and as specified herein", or similar expressions, they shall not be deemed to be and are not a defeasance of the provisions under the present article of the Agreement, and they are not to be construed as requiring work to be called for both in the specifications and in the drawings in order to be a requirement under the Agreement.
