ORIENTATION AND INSERVICE. 20.01 An orientation and inservice program will be provided to all employees; these programs shall be reviewed and discussed from time to time by members of the Union-Management Committee. The Committee will promote an environment that supports continuous learning, enhances opportunities for career development and will assist in the assessment, analysis, development and evaluation of the education programs at the facility. 20.02 A newly employed employee shall not be placed in charge, until she has been fully oriented to the home. 20.03 The following minimums shall be observed in the orientation/familiarization of a newly-hired employee: (a) She is to be familiarized with the physical aspects of the building, the applicable policies and procedures of the employer, and the daily routine of employees in the Home. (b) The period of orientation/familiarization shall be for a minimum of five (5) days or such greater period that the Employer deems necessary. (c) She shall be an additional employee to the usual staffing pattern. (d) The employee or employees involved in the orientation/familiarization will confirm that it has been completed, and this will be noted on the newly- hired employee's personnel file, which will be reviewed with such employee, and the employee shall also be able to comment. (e) The employee may request up to three (3) additional days of paid orientation. When making her request, the employee will specify her learning needs and discuss with the Director of Care the development of the orientation learning plan. This request will not be unreasonably denied. (f) Notwithstanding the above, orientation/familiarization when an employee is transferred to a new unit/shift will be provided as required. (c) The Employer will endeavour where practical to schedule inservices at time which will facilitate the attendance of employees working outside the day shift. 20.06 When required by a certifying body to update an employee’s qualifications, except where this matter is covered by another provision of the Collective Agreement, the Employer shall grant leave of absence without pay which shall include the time required to write any examinations. 20.07 The Employer undertakes to notify the Union in advance, so far as practicable, of any technological changes which the Employer has decided to introduce which will significantly change the employment status of the employee(s) within the bargaining unit. The Employer agrees to discuss with the Union the effect of such technological changes on the employment status of the employee(s) and to consider practical ways and means of minimizing the adverse effect, if any, on the employee(s) concerned. Employees who are subject to layoff due to technological change will then be given notice of such layoff at the earliest reasonable time and in keeping with the requirements of the applicable legislation and the provisions of Article 9.11 to 9.16 will apply. 20.08 Provided that an employee provides thirty (30) calendar days notice in writing, an employee shall be entitled to leave of absence without pay from her or his regularly scheduled working hours for the purpose of writing exams arising out of the Quality Assurance Program required by the College of Nurses of Ontario. 20.05 The Inservice education program shall be based on the Home. Programmes will be publicized and related material will be made readily accessible to staff in a timely manner. (b) It shall be a planned program to update employees as to changes in procedures or practices.

(b) The A period of orientation/orientation - familiarization shall be for a minimum of five three (53) days or such greater period that on the Employer deems necessaryday shift, one (1) shift on evenings (3 - 11) and one (1) shift on nights (11 - 7), and if the nurse is employed to work on another shift, she/he will also receive orientation - familiarization on the shift she/he is to work for the number of shifts as mutually agreed.

ORIENTATION AND INSERVICE. 20.01 An The Employer recognizes the need for an orientation and inservice program will be provided to all employees; these programs shall be reviewed and discussed from time to time by members of such duration as it may deem appropriate taking into consideration the needs of the Union-Management Committee. (e) The employee may request up to three (3) additional days of paid orientation. When making her request, the employee will specify her learning needs and discuss with the Director of Care the development of the orientation learning plan. This request will not be unreasonably denied.
(f) Notwithstanding 20.03 The inservice education program shall be based on the above, orientation/familiarization when an employee is transferred to a new unit/shift will be provided as required.
(g) The learning needs identified by the Employer may, at its discretion, provide orientation in other circumstancesconsultation with nurses.

ORIENTATION AND INSERVICE. Effective July 13, 2012:
20.01 An orientation and inservice program will be provided to all employees; these programs shall be reviewed and discussed from time to time by members of the Union-Management Committee. The Committee will promote an environment that supports continuous learning, enhances opportunities for career development and will assist in the assessment, analysis, development and evaluation of the education programs at the facility.
20.02 A newly employed employee shall not be placed in charge, until she has been fully oriented to the home.
20.03 The following minimums shall be observed in the orientation/familiarization of a newly-hired employee:

(d) The employee or employees involved in the orientation/familiarization will confirm that it has been completed, and this will be noted on the newly- newly-hired employee's personnel file, which will be reviewed with such employee, and the employee shall also be able to comment.
(e) The employee may request up to three (3) additional days of paid orientation. When making her request, the employee will specify her learning needs and discuss with the Director of Care the development of the orientation learning plan. This request will not be unreasonably denied.

20.09 The Employer undertakes to notify the Union in advance, so far as practicable, of any technological changes which the Employer has decided to introduce which will significantly change the employment status of the employee(s) within the bargaining unit. The Employer agrees to discuss with the Union the effect of such technological changes on the employment status of the employee(s) and to consider practical ways and means of minimizing the adverse effect, if any, on the employee(s) concerned. Employees who are subject to layoff due to technological change will then be given notice of such layoff at the earliest reasonable time and in keeping with the requirements of the applicable legislation and the provisions of Article 9.11 to 9.16 will apply.

ORIENTATION AND INSERVICE. 20.01 An orientation and inservice in service program will be provided to all employees; these . 20.02 A newly employed employee shall hired nurse will not be placed in charge, assigned to a unit until she has been fully oriented to the homeon all standard shifts.
20.03 The following minimums shall are to be observed in the orientation/familiarization of a newly-newly- hired employee:
(a) She is to be familiarized with the physical aspects of the building, the applicable policies and procedures of the employerEmployer, and the daily routine routines of employees in the Homeemployees.
(b) The period of orientation/familiarization shall be for a minimum of five three (53) days days, or such greater period that the Employer deems necessary.
(c) She shall The employee will be an additional employee in addition to the usual normal staffing patterncomplement.

The Union supports the principle of acknowledges that its members' responsibility members are responsible for their own professional development and the Employer will endeavour agrees to provide programmes related and promote programs relevant to the requirements needs of St. Joseph’s Villa.
20.05 The Inservice education program shall be based on the Home. Programmes will be publicized and related material will be made readily accessible to staff in a timely manner. Any problems in accessing this information will be reported to the Union- Management Committee for resolution.following principles:
(a) Where possible, in-service programs and e-learning It shall be scheduled during based on the learning needs identified by employees’ regular working hours. Employees who are subject to layoff due to technological change will then be given notice of such layoff at the earliest reasonable time and in keeping with the requirements of the applicable legislation and the provisions of Article 9.11 to 9.16 will apply.
20.08 Provided that an employee provides thirty (30) calendar days notice in writing, an employee shall be entitled to leave of absence without pay from her or his regularly scheduled working hours for the purpose of writing exams arising out of the Quality Assurance Program required by the College of Nurses of Ontario. In the event the employee is scheduled to work the night shift immediately before the exams the Employer shall schedule the employee off.
20.09 In accordance with Article 20.05, the Employer agrees that if for any reason, changes in the operating and technical methods and practices of providing nursing care, require additional knowledge or skill on the part of the employees, such employees will be given the opportunity to study and practice to acquire any knowledge or skill necessary to carry out these responsibilities.
20.10 The Employer will meet with the Union to discuss any remediation or continuing education required by the College of Nurses’ of Ontario (CNO) to re-establish eligibility for clinical practice following an employee’s return from an approved absence.

20.09 In accordance with Article 20.05, the Employer agrees that if for any reason, changes in the operating and technical methods and practices of providing nursing care, require additional knowledge or skill on the part of the employees, such employees will be given the opportunity to study and practice to acquire any knowledge or skill necessary to carry out these responsibilities.
20.10 The Employer will meet with the Union to discuss any remediation or continuing education required by the College of Nurses’ of Ontario (CNO) to re-establish eligibility for clinical practice following an employee’s return from an approved absence.
