PERSONAL LEAVE ABSENCE. 9.9.1 A Unit Member may be eligible for Personal Leave of Absence for a period which may not exceed one (1) year upon written application by the Unit Member, recommendation of the Unit member’s appropriate Administrator, and approval of the Employer, subject to the following: 9.9.1.1 The leave of absence will be without pay. A Unit Member on leave of absence under Personal Leave of Absence in excess of thirty (30) calendar days shall not, from the date the leave starts, accrue seniority, step increases, sick leave, or other fringe benefits granted to regular Unit Members. 9.9.1.2 A Unit Member must submit a request for Personal Leave of Absence sufficiently in advance to provide a reasonable opportunity to find a substitute employee for the duration of the Unit Member’s leave of absence, if required.
