Promotions, Transfers and Preferential Assignments Within the Sheriff’s. Office An employee who is promoted, transferred, or takes a preferential assignment (lateral transfer with same rank) within the Sheriff’s Office, shall be on a probationary trial period of twelve (12) months to prove his ability. The Sheriff will be allowed to extend this period up to six (6) months at his discretion. During the trial period, the employee shall have the opportunity to voluntarily revert to his former classification. If the employee is unsatisfactory in the new position, he will be returned to his former classification without loss of seniority.
