New Hires to the Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff agrees that new employees hired into the unit from outside the Sheriff's Office shall be considered probationary employees for the first twelve (12) months of their employment, unless the probationary period is extended by the Sheriff. When an employee completes the probationary period, he shall be entered on the seniority list of the unit and shall rank for seniority from the day twelve (12) months prior to the day he completes the probationary period. There shall be no seniority among probationary employees. A probationary employee’s job performance shall be periodically evaluated in writing by his supervisor. The decision to discipline, discharge, or layoff the probationary employee and the decision as to whether or not an employee successfully completes probation, shall vest exclusively in the Sheriff and/or the County and shall not be subject to review under the grievance and arbitration procedures of this Agreement. The Association shall represent these newly hired probationary employees for the purpose of collective bargaining in respect to rates of pay, wages, hours of employment and other conditions of employment as set forth in this Agreement, except discharged and disciplined employees for other than Association activity.
