Upon temporary promotion, an employee will receive either the minimum of the new pay range or a five percent (5%) increase over his present rate of pay, whichever is greater. An employee so temporarily promoted shall receive this rate of pay as long as he continues to serve in said higher classification and shall be entitled to receive increases within the range for the position as provided in this Agreement as though he had been appointed on the day he began to receive the rate of pay designated for the position. The 40- hour waiting period shall apply each time an employee is assigned to a higher classification in this manner.
