Relief Positions. Back-up training will be provided as Relief Positions. Positions will be posted by the Company, and employees selected pursuant to Article 3.14. When the Company deems relief assistance is necessary, it shall assign the senior employee holding the Relief Posting. Lead Hand relief positions must come from within the department. The Relief person scheduled will be paid at the higher classification when transferred to the position for more than one (1) hour at any one (1) time and paid for the number of hours worked in the scheduled relief position.

Relief Positions. For the purpose of relief jobs: (a) the Company will post during the month of December and the job term will be for the life of the agreement and employees will only be able to bid on a relief job if it is at the same or higher classification. Master shift workers are not eligible to bid on relief jobs. When the Company is unable to fill any such vacancy as a result of having received no application bids, the Company shall assign the employee in General Utility with the lowest seniority to such job. When a new employee subsequently at- tains seniority status, such new employee shall be assigned to the job in question, if the employee originally assigned to the job chooses to revert back to his original job. Relief positions will be awarded in accordance with article 14:01. A person having successfully bid on a relief position cannot bid on any subsequent relief positions. Person attaining a permanent shift position will give up any relief positions held. (b) Master shift workers will be eligible to bid on the ▇▇▇▇▇▇ Relief position, but will remain in this role past the contract expiration unless the person bids into another permanent assignment outside the master shift or into control room position. Any replacement of this person will be on a non-overtime assignment. (c) When the Company is unable to fill such vacancy as the result of having received no application bids from employees, junior employees will be placed in these unsatisfied vacancies.
Relief Positions. A. Employees wishing to bid into the relief positions (Floaters) must be able and available to work all runs including Special Education and/or aide positions. B. The parties may elect to revisit the issue of relief positions (Floaters) as long as a request is sent to the other party no less than thirty (30) days prior to the bid session for the year. C. The employer shall post for relief positions (Floaters) at the normal bid time in accordance with the contract Article 30. D. The regular employees who have bid into the relief positions (Floaters) shall be used as the first employees to cover a.m. and p.m. secondary/elementary and special education runs of other regular drivers. They may also be used to cover special education runs if there is not a more senior regular driver available to take the work; senior drivers have preference. E. An employee in the relief position (Floater) must be aware that he or she could be called and/or scheduled to cover routs that would have earlier leave times than posting. On a limited basis and if by mutual agreement floaters need to trade assignments, management would have no objections so long as management is provided with prior notification and service is not interrupted. F. An employee in the relief position (Floater) shall not be permitted to sign for an evening field trip that is required to leave before 4:45 p.m. or any trip that interferes with his/her a.m. or p.m. responsibilities to cover other drivers.

Relief Positions. A. Where relief positions are used as provided for in Rule 29 and there is a sufficient number of regularly assigned employes to provide regular consecutive relief days in multiples of five (5), such regular assigned employes may be relieved two (2) consecutive days in seven (7), subject to provisions of paragraph G of Rule 29, by one or more regularly assigned relief positions. No employe will be regularly assigned to such relief position more or less than five (5) days per week and will work the same assigned hours, and at the same rate, as those of the employe he is relieving; preference in relief days and rest periods of relief positions to be subject to agreement between representatives of Carrier and Employes. B. After all possible five-day relief assignments have been established in accordance with the foregoing and three or four days of relief work still exists, one or two days of other work may be arranged so as to provide an assignment of five days and permit the bulletining and filling same as provided in this rule. Where only one or two days of assignable relief work exists, the Carrier may at its option call for each such day (1) an employe from the Rotating Extra Board or the Extra List, whichever the case, or (2) an assigned employe on an overtime basis pursuant to Rule 37.

In addition, information about all job vacancies will be available to employees by calling the office and in pay envelopes. All regular full or part time vacancies will be posted and filled in accordance with this Agreement. Postings will include position requirements, minimum qualifications, substitute and preferred qualifications (if any) and base rate of pay.
