Rest Periods and Lunch Breaks. Section 1. A rest period of fifteen (15) minutes shall be permitted for all employees for each full half work shift. Such rest periods shall normally be on a scheduled basis so that activities of the department shall be staffed at all times. It is a joint responsibility of management and the employee to schedule rest periods. Employees who are having difficulty scheduling a rest period should meet with their supervisor to schedule an appropriate break time. When an employee works overtime, the employee will be granted rest periods specified by the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI). Section 2. Employees engaged in work requiring that they supervise youth during the entire work shift shall be granted a lunch period with pay not to exceed thirty (30) minutes. Employees not engaged in work requiring that they supervise youth during the entire work shift shall be granted an unpaid lunch period not less than thirty (30) minutes nor more than one (1) hour in duration. Section 3. Subject to the physical structure of the building and the operating needs of the County, and whenever possible, employees shall be provided with lunchroom facilities.
