Common use of Salary Placement Upon Promotion Clause in Contracts

Salary Placement Upon Promotion. Every employee who is promoted shall be appointed to the first step of the salary range of the new classification or at least 5% above the step and range of his/her previous classification, whichever is higher. In no event shall the promoted employee be placed above step 5 of the new range (even if placement at step 5 does not provide a minimum five percent (5%) base salary increase). The effective date of the promotion shall be the first day of the pay period following the promotion date. The employee’s anniversary date for the position into which the employee is promoted (which determines step increases for that position) shall be the effective date of the promotion.
