Initial Salary Placement. Initial salary placement of newly employed unit members shall be on the first step of the appropriate range. Unit members with the equivalent of eighteen (18) months of verified, paid, full-time and related job experience of at least three (3) months in duration, shall be moved to Step B (Step 2 for the Maintenance & Operations classifications) of the appropriate range. Unit members (other than office/technical employees) with the equivalent of thirty-six (36) months of verified, paid, full-time and related job experience of at least three (3) months in duration, shall be moved to Step C (Step 3 for the Maintenance & Operations classifications subject to review) of the appropriate range. For purposes of salary placement, 7.5 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of directly related coursework from a regularly accredited institution will be equivalent to one (1) year of job experience. For purposes of calculation of District short-term non- academic hourly work, (one hundred seventy-three) 173 hours shall be credited as one month of calendar work. The combination of experience and credits shall not result in placement higher than Step C (max Step B for office/technical) without specific approval of the Chancellor. AFT shall be notified of any such placements higher than Step C. Such notification shall include the unit member’s name, step placement, work location, supervisor’s name, and reason for the exception. Verifications submitted within 120 (one hundred twenty) calendar days from the date of employment will result in retroactive salary placement. All other verifications for initial placement will be effective the first of the month following submission to Human Resources. Any additional initial salary placement verifications submitted after one (1) year from the date of hire will not be accepted. The AFT will receive a duplicate copy of the salary information form given to the unit member at the time of hire.

Only units or semester hours earned from an accredited university or college will be considered. In determining initial salary placement as identified in Article 15, discipline related work experience may be considered all or in part as “applicable experience” equivalent to teaching experience. Generally, pre-baccalaureate experience is not credited unless otherwise agreed to by the committee and the Xxxx. 5. One (1) year for every two (2) years of full-time substantive work experience in a closely related area of teaching specialization. One (1) additional year may be credited for exceptional or distinguished experience as agreed to by the committee and the Xxxx.
Initial Salary Placement. 13.3.1 Unit members initially hired by the District shall be placed on step one (1) of the appropriate salary schedule for his/ her class. However, the District and the Union may mutually agree, after consultation, to designate shortage areas. Thereafter, the District may place new employees as high as Step 5 in those areas. Said advanced step placement shall be based upon the applicant’s prior experience, additional training or expertise, and must be approved, in advance, by the Chief of Human Resources or designee. If the District and the Union cannot mutually agree on the designation of a shortage area, the issue shall be referred to the Superintendent for final determination. The District will provide the Union with a quarterly report of the applicants hired above Step 1. 13.4 A unit member must serve a minimum of seventy-five percent (75%) of the work calendar of his/her assignment to receive an increment for time in service.

In limited circumstances and only with recommendation of the Xxxx and prior approval of the Xxxxxxx and SEA President, a newly employed Bargaining Unit Member who possesses exceptional teaching or applicable experience (more than 10 years) may receive a salary that exceeds the maximum rate reflected on the above Initial Salary Placement Table. C. For faculty hired at a rank above Assistant Professor, placement on the initial salary table shall be based only on years in the rank to which they are being hired at their previous institution. D. For the purposes of initial salary calculation newly employed Bargaining Unit Members’ experience shall be reduced by one (1) year for every year that continuing Bargaining Unit Members do not receive a step increase. E. All newly employed Bargaining Unit Members will transition from the Initial Salary Placement Table to the Continuing Faculty Salary Table beginning with their second year of employment. Such placement will be at the next step closest to the starting salary that provides an increase and follow provisions identified in Section 2.
