Common use of Seniority and Certification Clause in Contracts

Seniority and Certification. A seniority list shall be established listing all members of the bargaining unit, the date of hire-in, and the areas of certification held by each teacher. All teachers having a continuing contract shall be placed higher on the seniority list than those teachers who do not. After this is done, seniority shall be determined by the length of continuous service in the school system. (Part-time teachers shall receive prorated service credit, i.e. 1/2 time equal 1/2 year service.) Among those with the same length of continuous service, seniority shall be determined by and in order of preference:
