Seniority Rights on Reinstatement. ‌ An employee who returns to work after the expiration of her maternity, parental, or adoption leave shall retain service credits and seniority rights accumulated prior to the maternity, parental, adoption leave and shall be credited with seniority for the period of time covered by Clause 22.1(a). The employee shall be deemed to have resigned on the date upon which leave of absence without pay commenced if an application for re-employment is not made prior to the expiration of the leave. Extension of Maternity Leave‌ Maternity, parental, or adoption leave shall be extended for up to a maximum total leave of one (1) year for health reasons where a doctor's certificate is presented. Benefits provided under Clause 22.1(d) may be continued provided the employee pays the premiums monthly in advance. Maternity, parental, or adoption leave shall be extended for up to a maximum total leave as follows: An additional six (6) weeks if, for reasons related to the birth or termination of the pregnancy, the employee is unable to return to work. An additional five (5) weeks if the child has a physical, psychological or emotional condition requiring an additional period of parental care.
