Shifts and Shift Differentials. 1. Employees working on a shift operation whose straight time hours begin at three (3:00) p.m. or later, or at twelve (12:00) a.m. or later shall receive a differential of ten percent (10%).
2. Whenever the Employee requests a change of shift, approval of such request shall not be unreasonably withheld if a vacancy exists in the classification in which he/she is then working and if more than one Employee applies, such change shall apply to the Employee with the most classification seniority qualified to do the work. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Employees shall have preference in filling vacancies on another shift in the classification in which he/she is then working over new Employees.
3. The foregoing shall not interfere with any training program requiring rotation of shifts.
4. There shall be no split shifts.

Employees will be paid shift rate for all time worked in a shift, exclusive of meal breaks, and including rest periods. Employees working a day shift will not be eligible for shift rates where their modified work day extends beyond 1800, unless the extension is due to scheduling requirements.

(a) Licensed Practical Nurses - an amount equal to the greater of ten percent (10%) of the LPN’s salary including specialty differential, or three-fourths (3/4) of the shift differential paid to Registered Nurses in the same institution, whichever is greater.
(b) All Other Employees - a shift differential of ten percent (10%) of salary, including specialty differential.

The Employer may change an Employee’s shift only for good and sufficient reason, and any such change shall apply to the Employee with the least classification seniority qualified to do the work. 4. Licensed Practical Nurses who are assigned by the Employer to “in-charge” responsibilities shall receive a differential in a dollar amount equal to the RN in-charge differential at that institution. In each Hospital this amount may differ.

Shifts and Shift Differentials. A. First or regular day shift - A consecutive eight (8) hour period, starting between 3:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., exclusive of a lunch period on the employee's time.
B. Where two shifts are worked - Second or regular swing shift shall consist of a consecutive eight (8) hour period, starting between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., exclusive of a lunch period on the employee's time.
C. Employees assigned to a second or third shift operation shall be paid the second shift hourly rate for the time worked. (See Appendix A). Employees on third shift shall receive eight (8) hours pay provided they work a full shift.
