Sick Leave - Quarantine. 20.2.1 Each employee shall be allowed the following days of leave for illness or injury: Regular School Year (as defined in Article 8, Calendar) 10 20.2.2 Unused sick leave shall accrue from school year to school year. 20.2.3 At the beginning of each school year, every teacher shall receive a sick leave allotment credit, equal to the employee’s sick leave entitlement for the school year. A teacher may use the credited sick leave at any time during the school year. 20.2.4 After all earned sick leave days at full pay have been used and additional absence, due to illness or accident (temporary disability), is necessary, the certificated employee, for up to a total of five (5) school months (one hundred [100] days), shall receive the difference between the employee’s own salary and the amount paid a substitute at the current substitute rate. After an employee has used ten (10) days of differential pay in one (1) academic year, pursuant to this section, he/she may be required to provide verification of illness. The District may, on the next day of absence and every tenth (10th) day thereafter, notify the employee that verification may be requested pursuant to this Section. 20.2.5 Upon the request of the employee and the recommendation of accepted medical counsel, the Board of Trustees may grant up to one (1) year’s leave of absence for the benefit of the employee’s health; the employee to receive the difference between the employee’s salary and that of the person added to the staff due to the employee’s absence. 20.2.6 In the case of official quarantine of the employee’s place of residence, the employee shall be allowed full pay during the period of enforced quarantine. There shall be no charge against the employee’s accrued sick leave. 20.2.7 The Administration may require a doctor’s certification or other proof of illness before allowing payment for days of absence due to illness, accident or quarantine in excess of five (5) consecutive days. All absences that arise during a “Strike” shall be verified by a physician’s statement or other proof of illness. 20.2.8 Employees shall be notified, monthly, of their remaining sick leave balance.
