Skill Compensation. A. Paramedic Duty Assignment (Paramedic Pay) - Firefighter, Fire Engineer and Fire Captain positions assigned to paramedic duty or working as paramedic out-of-class (“PMOC”) will receive additional compensation which shall be the amount of the difference between Step five of the Fire Engineer classification and the amount representing 12.72% above Step five of the Fire Engineer classification. A minimum staffing of two paramedics will be maintained on all Advanced Life Support (ALS) units. B. Bomb Squad Assignment (Hazard Premium) - Firefighter, Fire Engineer, Fire Investigator Supervisor and Fire Captain positions assigned to the Bomb Squad Unit will receive additional compensation which shall be the amount of the difference between Step five of the Fire Engineer classification and the amount representing 5.12% above Step five of the Fire Engineer classification. Xxxxxxxxx Pay - Effective no later than July 1, 2018, employees, who speak Spanish or any other language designated by the Fire Chief, shall receive bilingual pay provided they pass an examination administered by the Human Resources Department that tests their oral competency in job-related situations. Bilingual pay shall be $115 per pay period. In the event there are more than 50 employees who receive bilingual pay, the City may require the Association to meet and confer to limit the number of personnel who receive such premium compensation. Skill Compensation. A. Employees in the Fire Captain classification who have and maintain their paramedic certification and utilize that certification as a part of normal duties when assigned to paramedic duty, will be compensated for 6.5% of their base pay in recognition of their certification and supervisory responsibility for paramedic duty. Firefighters and Fire Engineers employed by the City of Ontario that possess a paramedic certification as of June 4, 2023, shall be eligible for Supervisory Paramedic Duty Assignment (Captain Paramedic Pay) upon promotion to Captain provided that the necessary paramedic certification has been maintained. To ensure that operational needs are met, a maximum number of thirty-five employees shall be eligible for Supervisory Paramedic Duty Assignment.

Fire Investigation Supervisor Education – Fire Investigation Supervisor – 56 hour, holding the rank of Fire Captain and assigned to a shift schedule, who obtain a Fire Investigator certification (formerly Fire Investigator I and Fire Investigator II) issued by the California Office of the State Fire Marshal will receive 10% above the Investigation Supervisor – 56 hour base pay. Fire Captains who possess a Company Officer certification and are assigned to either the 56-hour or 40-hour Fire Investigator Supervisor position shall continue to receive the Professional Development Incentive outlined in Section 10.04. Or: In lieu of eligibility for the above referenced Investigation Supervisor Education compensation, a Fire Investigation Supervisor – 56 - hour, holding the rank of Fire Captain, will be eligible to receive Supervisory Paramedic Duty Assignment compensation as outlined in Section 10.03 (B), provided that the employee meets stated eligibility requirements.
