Soil Sampling Procedure Sample Clauses

Soil Sampling Procedure. Soil samples will be collected as specified in the Soil Sampling SOP, by use of Geoprobe® Dual Tube samples, split spoon sampler, or other equivalent method. At each borehole location, a continuous core will be collected over the length of the boring. The core will be scanned for gross beta/gamma count rates, then samples will be collected at the rate of one for each three-foot stratum. The sample aliquot collected will be determined by the location of any elevated gross gamma readings within each three-foot stratum. If no elevated readings are observed, the sample will be obtained from the approximate center of the stratum. Soil samples selected for radiological analysis will be field screened with an appropriately calibrated portable organic vapor analyzer equipped with a photo ionization detector (PID) for total organic vapor concentrations using the jar headspace procedure. An experienced environmental professional will conduct the screening. Results will be recorded on the applicable boring logs.‌ Soil samples will be analyzed in accordance with the SAP by HPGe gamma spectroscopy with radon daughter ingrowth, isotopic uranium alpha spectroscopy, or a combination of the two, as applicable. A small subset of soil samples showing elevated levels of radioactivity will be analyzed for TCLP and other parameters as deemed necessary to prepare a complete waste profile to evaluate the waste acceptance criteria for disposal (Worksheet #9c).
