Specialist Advice and Services. You may be required to support the appointer to obtain specialist advice and services to assist them in making a specific decision. This may include situations where such services are commonly required, for example, obtaining advice from a solicitor about the sale of a property, or advice from a regulated financial advisor about completing an annual tax return. As a decision-making assistant, you are not permitted to reimburse yourself from the appointer’s funds for any fees incurred while obtaining specialist advice and services. When engaging professional services or specialist advice with the appointer, you must take reasonable steps to ensure that you are obtaining value for money. This may include: • obtaining quotes from two or more providers; • gathering evidence of fair market value; and • noting, where it exists, an established relationship between the provider and appointer.
