Spouse’s benefits. In the event of the death of an eligible em- ployee before he/she has complied with the requirements for the election of a retirement date, there will be no death benefit payable under the Pension Plan. In the event of the death of an eligible employee on or after the date he/she has complied with the requirements for the election of an early retirement date, his/her surviving spouse shall be entitled to a monthly benefit equal to an amount not less than the amount which would have been provided to said spouse if the employee had retired on the day before his/her death and had elected the Fifty (50) Per cent Spouses' Joint and Survivor Annuity.
