Common use of Stand-by Premium Clause in Contracts

Stand-by Premium. Off-duty standby assignments shall be posted with regular schedules and determined in advance by supervision. Volunteers will be used for standby assignment when practicable. RNs placed on standby status off the Medical Center premises shall be compensated at the rate of four dollars ($4.00) per hour for the first forty-nine (49) hours. RNs shall receive six dollars and twenty-five cents ($6.25) per hour for all mandatory standby hours of fifty (50) or more per pay period. When called in from standby status, the nurse shall receive premium pay (time and one-half the nurse's regular rate) for a minimum work period of three (3) hours. If a nurse is called from stand by status to work within eight hours of the nurse's next scheduled shift, the nurse will be permitted a minimum of the next eight hours off duty. The nurse may use leave without pay or benefit time other than sick leave except where the use of sick leave is otherwise appropriate.
