Storage of Cement. Replace this Sub-Clause with the following Sub-Clause: Cement which is stored on the Site shall be kept under a cover that provides adequate protection against moisture and other factors that may aggravate deterioration. Where the cement is supplied in bags, the bags shall be closely and neatly stacked to a height not exceeding 12 bags, and they shall be so arranged that they can be used in the order in which they were delivered to the Site. Different brands and/or types of the same brand shall be stored separately. The storage of cement in bulk in silos or similar containers shall be permitted, provided that the cement drawn for use is measured by mass and not by volume. Cement shall not be kept in storage for longer than 6 weeks from the date of manufacture without the Engineer's permission. The Engineer may order the removal of cement, which is older than 6 weeks, from the Site or the alteration of the design mix if he does allow its use. Alternatively, he may allow the cement to be used in concrete of less critical importance, as in blinding layers.

Storage of Cement. Add the following after the words “...may promote deterioration.” in the second paragraph: “It is of prime importance that cements to be used in concrete for water-retaining structures shall always be stored in a cool environment, and it is strongly advised that cement silos be painted white to reduce any temperature rise in the stored cement.”
Storage of Cement. The cement shall be stored over dry platform at least 20 cm high and in such a manner as to prevent deterioration due to moisture or intrusion of foreign matters. In case of store rooms, the stack should be at least 20 cm away from floors and walls. The stacking of cement shall not be more than 10 bags high. Inspection shall be carried out once a day by rep of GE associated with the work and rep of contractor. It shall be ensured that tested and untested Cement shall be segregated and stored separately with distinct identification. Not more than three months requirement should be procured and held in stock to avoid its deterioration.
Storage of Cement. Cement shall be stored in well ventilated, watertight buildings with floors raised 50 cm above ground level and cement shall be within 15cm of the sides of the buildings to ensure circulation of air. Each consignment shall be kept separately and the contractor shall use the consignments in the order in which they are delivered on site. When being conveyed to the site in lorries or other vehicles, they shall be properly covered with tarpaulins or other effective waterproof coverings. Cement, which has become unsuitable through absorption of moisture shall be rejected and removed from the site by the Contractor at his own expense.
