TEACHER HOURS. A. Teaching hours in the Mesick Consolidated School shall be as follows: All teachers will have a daily seven (7) hour) ten (10) minute contractual obligation. Each teacher's workday schedule will be contiguous. TEACHER HOURS. A. Teaching All secondary school teachers shall have a duty-free lunch period as prescribed by State mandate. All full-time elementary school teachers shall receive a forty (40) minute duty free lunch on days when lunch is served for students. Middle school teachers shall receive a thirty-five (35) minute lunch period.
B. Teachers may leave the building during their lunch period and at other times during the regular inschool workday if permission is granted by the principal or his/her designated representative, which permission shall not be unreasonably withheld, and the teacher signs out and signs in again.
C. As professionals, teachers are expected to devote to their assignments the time necessary to meet their responsibilities, but they shall not be required to “clock in” or “clock out” by hours and minutes. Teachers shall indicate their presence in the Mesick Consolidated School building by utilizing the District’s electronic swipe card system upon arrival and when leaving the building during and after the school day.
D. It is recognized by both parties that emergencies or unusual circumstances may arise which will necessitate a change in the regular inschool workday.
E. Teachers may be required to remain after the end of the regular inschool workday, without additional compensation, for the purpose of attending not more than four (4) general faculty, departmental, or grade level meetings per month.
1. Such meetings shall begin promptly following student dismissal and shall run for no more than one (1) hour.
2. So far as practicable, such meetings shall not be called on Fridays, on a day preceding a school holiday, or on any day upon which teacher attendance is not required.
3. The notice and tentative agenda for any meeting shall be given to the teachers involved at least one (1) day prior to the meeting, whenever practicable.
4. Teachers shall have the opportunity to suggest items for the agenda.

F. The Board will set up a tutorial program, on a limited basis, in the high school and middle school, designed to provide additional instruction to students who require such attention. It is granted by planned that a few teachers will be relieved from study hall, corridor, cafeteria and the supervisor or principal. like duty to devote their efforts to this program.
G. Teachers will be permitted to leave the building during their lunch period upon condition that they sign out and sign in upon leaving and entering the building.
H. Every effort will be made to end these meetings provide teachers with a daily undivided preparation/conference period during which they shall not be assigned to any other duties. In instances where a daily preparation period cannot be scheduled, the Administration will rotate teacher schedules so that every effort is made to provide that the same teacher will not lack a daily prep period two years in a row.
I. Every effort will be made to avoid having secondary teachers assigned to teach more than three (3) consecutive periods. In the situation where double periods are used, the teacher will not be required to meet with more than six (6) classes consecutively.
J. The Administration will not assign teachers in grades Kindergarten through twelve (K-12) to more than one (1) extra-curricular evening proctoring activity, two (2) parent-teacher conferences, and one (1) back-to-school night per school year up to and including the date of graduation. The Back to School night program shall commence no later than 5:00 p.m.7:00pm.
E. Teachers K. When elementary classes are not required being taught music, art, computer or physical education by special area teachers, the teacher whose classes are being taught may use that time as a preparation period. When physical education is being taught by classroom teachers, that activity will be scheduled so that one teacher will be responsible for his or her own class and the class of another simultaneously. The teacher whose class has been taken over shall use that period as a preparation period.
L.
