Common use of Unpaid Professional Leave Clause in Contracts

Unpaid Professional Leave. 1. Any bargaining unit member who has completed two or more years of regular service in the district may be granted a leave of absence without pay for training, educational, professional development, or other purposes provided that he does not exceed a total unpaid leave of two (2) years. 2. The application for leave must be submitted to the Assistant Superintendent/Personnel at least thirty (30) days prior to the requested leave. Application for such leave shall outline the program to be pursued and shall clearly state how such activity will contribute directly to improved service to the school system and any other reasons for the requested leave. No leave of absence will be granted for employment in another occupation or business. 3. Application for reinstatement must be made at least thirty (30) days prior to the expiration of the approved leave of absence.
