Use of Grant Monies. The Grant monies will be used to hire a teacher whose special assignment will be to promote student attendance and success by reducing absences due to disciplinary removals from school. The teacher will be assigned to work half-time at Saddleback Elementary School and half-time at Santa Xxxx Elementary School. While working at Saddleback Elementary, the teacher will work cooperatively with the Ak-Chin Student Advisor, the Ak-Chin Truancy officer and parents to improve student behavior and academic achievement. While working at Santa Xxxx Elementary, the teacher will work closely with parents to ensure parental involvement in improving the academic achievement and behavior of all students. Rationale: In 2012-2013, there were 101 student suspensions at Saddleback Elementary School and 281 student suspensions at Santa Xxxx Elementary. At all other MUSD Elementary Schools, there were a combined total of 99 student suspensions. MUSD believes that by having a certificated teacher whose time can be devoted entirely to important collaborations with others (as described above), MUSD will experience a reduction in student suspensions and a corresponding increase in student attendance, resulting in improved academic performance for students.
