Voluntary Layoff. Leave without Pay or Reduction in Hours A. The Chief or designee may allow an employee to volunteer to be laid off, take leave without pay or reduce their hours of work in order to reduce layoffs. If it is necessary to limit the number of employees on unpaid leave at the same time, the Chief or designee will determine who will be granted a leave without pay and/or reduction in hours based upon staffing needs. B. The Chief or designee will allow an employee to volunteer to be laid off. Any volunteer for layoff shall have no formal or informal options. In those situations where an employee has volunteered to be laid off, the Employer will designate the separation of employment as a layoff for lack of work and/or lack of funds. C. If the appointing authority accepts the employee’s voluntary request for layoff, the employee will submit a non-revocable letter stating they are accepting a voluntary layoff from state service.
