Winter Shifts for Highway Maintenance Crews. (a) The Union and the Employer recognize that the implementation for highway maintenance winter shifts is largely dependent on winter conditions and that shifts may have to be implemented on short notice. (b) However, it is agreed that wherever possible the negotiation of these shift schedules should be undertaken at least forty-five (45) days prior to anticipated commencement and that fifteen (15) days should be provided for any sign up and selection process which is involved, therefore, the parties shall commence negotiations for the winter shift schedule September 1st of each year. (c) The Union and the Employer recognize that implementation and termination of winter shifts is largely dependent on weather conditions and that winter shifts may have to be implemented and/or terminated on short notice of not less than (5) calendar days.
