Standard Medical Treatment definition

Standard Medical Treatment means the services or supplies that are in general use in the medical community in the United States, and;

HMO shall determine whether any treatment, procedure, facility, equipment, drug, device, or supply is Experimental/Investigational, and will consider factors such as the guidelines and practices of Medicare, Medicaid, or other government-financed programs and approval by a federal agency in making its determination. Although a Health Care Professional may have prescribed treatment, and the services or supplies may have been provided as the treatment of last resort, such services or supplies still may be considered to be Experimental/Investigational within this definition. Treatment provided as part of a clinical trial or a research study is Experimental/Investigational.
