Application For Vacant Positions While in Probationary Status. A probationary employee shall have the right to apply for a vacant position as an outside candidate when there is an open recruitment. If the probationary employee is selected, he or she begins a new twelve month probationary period and will be placed at the same step in that position’s salary range as would a new employee. Appointment to the new position does not change the probationary employee’s date of hire and will not be considered as a break in service for purposes of determining County benefits, or right to utilize sick and vacation time. Eligibility for promotion to Step B will occur after six months of employment in the new position.
