Assignable Time Definition. 8.2.1. Assigned Time is defined as the amount of time that Employers assign teachers and within which they require teachers to fulfill various professional duties and responsibilities including but not limited to: a) operational days (including teachers’ convention); b) instruction; c) supervision, including before and after classes, transition time between classes, recesses, and lunch breaks; d) parent teacher interviews and meetings; e) employer and school directed professional development, time assigned to teacher professional development, and travel as defined in clause 8.2.3; f) staff meetings; g) time assigned before and at the end of the school day; and, h) other activities that are specified by the Employer to occur at a particular time and place within a reasonable work day. 8.2.2. Teachers have professional obligations under the Education Act and regulations made pursuant to the Education Act, as well as the Teaching Quality Standard, which may extend beyond what is assigned by Employers. Teachers have discretion, to be exercised reasonably, as to when they carry out their professional responsibilities that extend beyond their assigned time. 8.2.3. Time spent traveling to and from professional development opportunities identified in clause 8.2.1
