Conditions of Practice. 8.1. Teacher Instructional and Assignable Time
8.1.1. Effective until August 31, 2022, teacher instructional time will be capped at 907 hours per school year commencing the 2017-2018 school year
8.1.1. Effective September 1, 2022, teacher instructional time will be capped at 916 hours per school year commencing the 2022-2023 school year.
8.1.2. Teacher assignable time will be capped at 1200 hours per school year.
Conditions of Practice. Harassment
8.1 The parties recognize an employee’s right to work in an environment which is free of harassment. The Board is dedicated to providing and maintaining an environment that fosters respectful and responsible behaviours. The parties recognize further that this constitutes a common objective and that reasonable efforts shall be deployed to prevent and correct any situation or conduct that compromises this right.
8.2 For the purpose of this agreement, harassment means any conduct, comments or gestures which are offensive, humiliating, abusive or threatening.
8.3 Nothing in this article shall prevent a teacher from proceeding with a complaint or action instead of, or in addition to, that described in this article.
8.4 A teacher who believes that they have been subjected to harassment may file a written complaint with the superintendent. The teacher may request the assistance of an Association representative when filing the complaint.
8.5 Upon receipt of a complaint, the superintendent shall ensure that an investigation is conducted without delay. The superintendent shall report the findings of the investigation to the teacher, the individual against whom the complaint has been made, the Association and the Board as soon as practicable.
8.6 If the complaint relates to the conduct of the superintendent, the teacher shall file the written complaint with the Board.
8.7 Upon receipt of a complaint, the Board shall ensure that an investigation is conducted without delay. The Board shall report the findings of the investigation to the teacher, the superintendent, and the Association as soon as practicable.
8.8 Having consideration for the nature of the complaint, and the outcome of the investigation, the Board shall make a determination of how to appropriately address the situation of a particular complaint.
8.9 Where a teacher knowingly files a false written complaint, the Board shall made a determination of how to appropriately address the situation.
8.10 No teacher will suffer reprisal as a direct result of any feedback received through the use of surveys.
Conditions of Practice. Teacher Instructional and Assignable Time, Sunsets, Assignable Time Definition and Teacher Professional Growth Plan
11.1 Teacher Instructional and Assignable Time
a) Effective September 1, 2017, in those school jurisdictions that have no teacher instructional time limitations in that jurisdiction’s existing Collective Agreement, teacher instructional time will be capped at 907 hours per school year commencing the 2017-18 school year. This provision also applies to Collective Agreements of the following school jurisdictions: • Red Deer CRD No. 39 • Rocky View SD No. 41
b) Effective September 1, 2017, in those school jurisdictions that have no teacher assignable time limitations established in that jurisdiction’s existing Collective Agreement, teacher assignable time will be capped at 1200 hours per school year commencing the 2017-18 school year.

Conditions of Practice. 8.1. Teacher Instructional and Assignable Time (Effective until August 31, 2022)
8.1.1. The principal shall have the prime responsibility for allocation of instruction time and assignable time of the teaching staff.
8.1.2. The instructional week shall be organized such that a teacher who is not in receipt of an administrative allowance will not be assigned duties in excess of 1,800 minutes per week, of which a maximum of ,1430 minutes will be devoted to instruction of pupils.
8.1.3. Up to two (2) times per school year, during a week when parent / teacher conferences are held, a school staff may cancel or shorten classes by one half- day (1/2). On these occasions the weekly assignable time may exceed 1,800 minutes in order to conduct parent / teacher conferences.
8.1.4. Notwithstanding the foregoing, teachers may agree to be timetabled for instructional duties which may vary in the number of minutes assigned per week. In such cases a teacher shall not be assigned instructional duties which would exceed an average of 1,430 minutes per week for any given school year. Averaging shall be limited to:
Conditions of Practice. 17.1 A teacher not in receipt of any administrative allowance will not be assigned duties in excess of One Thousand Eight Hundred (1800) minutes in a week.
17.1.1 Teachers will be assigned no more than 916 hours of instruction in a school year.
17.1.2 Teachers will be assigned duties no more than 1200 hours in a school year.
17.2 Assignable Time Definition:
17.2.1 Assigned Time is defined as the amount of time that the Board assigns teachers and within which they require teachers to fulfill various professional duties and responsibilities including but not limited to: a) operational days (including teachers’ convention) b) instruction c) supervision, including before and after classes, transition time between classes, recesses and lunch breaks d) parent teacher interviews and meetings e) Board and school directed professional development, time assigned to teacher professional development, and travel f) staff meetings g) time assigned before and at the end of the school day h) other activities that are specified by the Board to occur at a particular time and place within a reasonable work day.
17.2.2 Teachers have professional obligations under the Education Act and regulations made pursuant to the Education Act, as well as the Teaching Quality Standard, which may extend beyond what is assigned by School Divisions. Teachers have discretion, to be exercised reasonably, as to when they carry out their professional responsibilities that extend beyond their assigned time.
Conditions of Practice. 8.3.1 Staff deployment is the responsibility of the principal and their teaching staff. Where a teacher is concerned about the pedagogical appropriateness of an assignment, it should be discussed confidentially with the principal so that deployment decisions may be reconsidered as applicable.
8.4.1 It is understood that teachers are expected to participate in those aspects of student activities which are normal extensions of the classroom program. Also, it is understood that some parameters for extracurricular activities are necessary in order to ensure both the quality of classroom instruction and a viable workload for teachers. The extent of school involvement in extracurricular activities must be determined by the principal and their staff. Teachers who have chosen to undertake a specific extracurricular activity shall be committed to that activity for its duration in that school year, unless an emergent situation prohibits continuance. Voluntary participation in extracurricular activities cannot be the rationale for an internal transfer.
