AUTOMATED VEHICLE LOCATOR. 15(1) Definition: Automated Vehicle Locator (“AVL”) technology shall mean any device, or combination of devices, that will display or record the geographic location of a police vehicle and/or police portable radio. 15(2) The Employer recognizes that members have a reasonable expectation of privacy with regard to the use of AVL technology. The primary function of the AVL is to assist in emergencies where it is reasonable to believe that member safety is at risk. 15(3) AVL technology is not to be used for disciplinary purposes without prior express notice being provided to the member involved, except where exigent circumstances exist. 15(4) Nothing in this Article is intended to limit the responsibility of the Chief Constable (or designate) acting as discipline authority in accordance with the Police Act.
