Common use of Benefit Coverage – Leaves of Absence Clause in Contracts

Benefit Coverage – Leaves of Absence. (a) Employees enrolled in the plans mentioned in Sections 1 and 3 above and who are absent without pay for thirty (30) days in a calendar month may continue to be covered subject to the terms of the plan at no cost to the Board, with the exception where unpaid leave of absence is granted for job related purposes as indicated in Section 7 of “Leaves of Absence”. In addition, employees on leave of absence for Union business will remain covered and the Board will be reimbursed for its costs by the Union local. (A calendar month for the purposes of this clause shall mean the months of the year.) (b) In cases of strikes and/or lockouts the employees enrolled in the above plans shall continue to be covered, subject to the terms of the plan, without cost to the Board. Costs shall be pro-rated based on time off the job.
