Common use of Classification Seniority Clause in Contracts

Classification Seniority. Classification Seniority" is defined as the length of service in a specific job classification within the Agency and its predecessor agencies beginning with the date an employee starts to serve a probationary period. When an employee demotes, bumps, or transfers back to a previously held classification, Classification Seniority in the class to which the employee demotes, bumps, or transfers shall include Classification Seniority in all related higher or equally paid classes, in the same bargaining unit, in which the employee has served as well as any Classification Seniority previously acquired in the class to which the employee demotes, bumps, or transfers. An employee who serves a temporary appointment in a class and receives a probationary appointment to that class shall have Classification Seniority credited to the beginning of the temporary appointment in that class, provided there was no break in service between appointments. For purposes of Classification Seniority, time served in either the classification of Engineer, Principal or Land Surveyor, Principal may be credited interchangeably.
