Definition of Family Member for Bereavement Leave. For the purpose of bereavement leave, a family member is defined as a spouse, registered domestic partner, child and child-in-law, parent and parent-in-law, sibling and sibling-in- law, and grandparent. In addition, the Chief of Police may grant bereavement leave to an employee upon the death or for the funeral of some other person, if in the opinion of the Chief of Police, there existed an extraordinarily close familial relationship between the employee and such other person.

  • DEFINITION OF EMPLOYEE STATUS 8.01 The status of all employees covered by this agreement shall be defined under one of the following three definitions.

For purposes of this subsection, "immediate family" means mother, stepmother, father, stepfather, husband, wife, domestic partner (upon submission of an affidavit as defined in the appendices), son, stepson, daughter, stepdaughter, brother, sister, grandparent, grandchild, xxxxxx parent, xxxxxx child, mother-in-law, and father-in-law, or any other person sharing the relationship of in loco parentis; and, when living in the household of the employee, a brother-in-law, sister-in-law. Entitlement to leave of absence under this subsection shall be only for all hours the employee would have been scheduled to work for those days granted, and shall be in addition to any other entitlement for sick leave, emergency leave, or any other leave.
